ISRO Lost Connect With Vikram - Indian Space
Research Organisation has
announced that it lost
contact with the Moon lander “Vikram” which was
scheduled to land on the moon when it was at an altitude of 2.1 Km from
Moon’s surface. According to ISRO, the performance of the lander was as per the
plan till it was 2.1 km from the moon surface. Although, the 2,379 kg
Chandrayaan-2 orbiter continues to fly around the moon. Its mission life is of
one year. ISRO launched the Chandrayaan-2 (on July 22, 2019) into the space
from India’s heavy lift rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark
III (GSLV Mk
III). The Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft comprised three segments:
the Orbiter,
lander ‘Vikram’ and
rover ‘Pragyan’.
Kristalina Georgieva -
Bulgarian economist Kristalina Georgieva has been
selected as the new Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. She will
succeed Christine Lagarde.
Bipin Rawat - Army chief
Gen Bipin Rawat will take over as
the new Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. He
succeeding Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa, who retires from service by end of this month. The
Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) comprises chiefs of the Army, the Navy and the
Air Force and the senior-most member is appointed its chairperson.
RKS Bhadauria - The central
Government has appointed Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Air
Marshal RKS Bhadauria as the next
Chief of Air Staff (CAS). Present IAF Chief and Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff
Committee Air Chief Marshal
B.S. Dhanoa is
set to retire on September 30.
Dadasaheb Phalke award - The country’s
highest film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke award, will
be presented this year to Amitabh Bachchan. This award is
given for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian
cinema.
Surjit Bhalla - Indian government
has appointed economist Surjit Bhalla as the
executive director of the International Monetary Fund for
a period of three years. The post was lying vacant after the death of Dr.
Subir Gokarn in July.
Central Police
University - The country’s first central police university will
be set up by the Union home ministry off the Yamuna
Expressway in Greater Noida.
Nilesh Shah - Nilesh
Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Asset Management Company (AMC),
has been appointed as the new chairman of the Association
of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
Ramanujan prize
- The SASTRA Ramanujan prize
for 2019 will be awarded to Adam
Harper. Mathematician Adam Harper is an Assistant Professor
with the University of Warwick, England.
Pramod Kumar Mishra - Pramod Kumar Mishra will be the
new Principal Secretary to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi. He will replace Nripendra Mishra.
Pradeep Kumar Sinha - Former Cabinet
Secretary Pradeep
Kumar Sinha has been appointed the Principal
Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vijay Kumar Chopra -
Vijay Kumar Chopra and Vineet Jain is unanimously elected
as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Press
Trust of India (PTI) the country’s premier news agency.
Apache AH-64E Helicopter
- The Indian Air Force has
inducted 8 Apache AH-64E attack helicopters at
the Pathankot Air Force station to enhance its combat capabilities. The AH-64E
Apache is one of the world’s most advanced multi-role combat
helicopters. India has received the attack helicopters as per
the deal signed by Indian Air Force with the US Government and Boeing Ltd, in
September 2015. The Indian Air Force will operate a fleet of 22 Apaches by
2020.
TSENTR - Indian army will participate in a multilateral exercise “TSENTR 2019” to be
held in Russia. Armies of Pakistan,
China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia will also
participate in the exercise. This will be the first time that forces from India
and Pakistan will participate in a multilateral exercise together since the
Balakot airstrikes conducted by Indian forces.
Eastern Economic Forum - 5th Eastern Economic
Forum held in Vladivostok, Russia. Indian
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi participated as the Chief Guest at the Eastern
Economic Forum. During the plenary session Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced
a $1 Billion line of credit to Russia for
the development of the resource-rich region.
Reset: Regaining
India’s Economic Legacy - Former president Pranab
Mukherjee released a book named ‘Reset: Regaining
India’s Economic Legacy’. The book was written by BJP
MP Subramanian Swamy that tracks the country’s economic
development over the years and offers solutions for future growth.
Goalkeepers Global
Goals Awards - Rajasthan’s Payal Jangid, aged 17, became
the first Indian to receive the Changemaker Award 2019 at
the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards 2019.
The Award was presented by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at
a ceremony held in New York, United States. She is the President of her
village’s Children’s Parliament (Bal Panchayat).
Jai Bhagwan Bhoria - The Reserve
Bank of India has superseded the Board of Punjab and
Maharashtra Cooperative Bank Limited, Mumbai and appointed Jai
Bhagwan Bhoria as the bank’s administrator with all powers of the
board. The amount of
withdrawal from the bank allowed to depositors has been increased from one
thousand to ten thousand rupees. The RBI’s directives will remain in force for
a period of six months.
SS Mallikarjuna Rao - SS
Mallikarjuna Rao was appointed as the Managing Director(MD) and Chief
Executive of the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Dongfeng-41 - China unveiled the Dongfeng-41
(DF-41) intercontinental range ballistic missile, touted
to be the most powerful missile on the planet at the National Day parade, as China
observed its 70th anniversary of Communist rule. DF-41 has a range of up to
9,320 miles (15,000 kilometres), more than any missile on Earth. The missile
capable of carrying 10 independently targeted nuclear warheads and could
theoretically, hit the United States in 30 minutes.
GDP Forecast by ADB - The Asian
Development Bank has slashed its growth forecast for India
for fiscal year 2019-20 to 6.5% from
7%.The bank lowered the growth rate because of weaker growth in the first
quarter due to a slowdown in consumption and investment activities that hit
manufacturing and service sectors.
Gully Boy - The Film Federation
of India (FFI) has chosen ‘Gully Boy’ as India’s
official entry to the Oscars. “Gully Boy”, produced by
Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and directed by Zoya
Akhtar’, featured Ranveer as an up-and-coming rapper.
PATA Gold Award - Kerala
Tourism has won three prestigious Pacific
Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold awards in Nur-Sultan
(Astana), Kazakhstan.
Biggest Solar Plant - India’s National
Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) plans to set up
a 5-gigawatt solar park in the western state of
Gujarat, which would be the biggest in the country.
IIFA Awards - The 20th Edition of NEXA International Indian Film Academy
Awards (IIFA Awards) for 2019 was held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor
Stadium, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Best Film – Raazi | Best Actor
in a leading role (Female) - Alia Bhatt (Raazi) | Best Actor in a
leading role (Male) - Ranveer Singh (Padmaavat).
World Wrestling Championships
- Bajrang Punia won a bronze medal at the 2019
World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
AB-PMJAY - Jammu and
Kashmir has become the first
state in the country to issue the highest number of golden
cards under Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
(AB-PMJAY). Over 11 lakh golden cards have been generated
within the first 90 days of the launch of the scheme with 60% of families
having at least one golden card which is highest in the country.
Chang Thang Exercise - The Indian Army conducted a
massive rare exercise ‘Chang Thang’ in Eastern
Ladakh bordering China. The exercise involved the use of
infantry, mechanised forces, T-72 tanks, with force multipliers such as
artillery guns and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
PV Sindhu - Payment technology
company Visa announced that it has signed
up world badminton champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (PV Sindhu) as
its brand ambassador for two years.
Madhuri Dixit - Actor Madhuri
Dixit has been chosen as “goodwill
ambassador” by the Chief Electoral Office in Maharashtra
to create awareness among people about the importance of voting.
Malabar 2019 - The 23rd edition of
the trilateral maritime exercise of India,
Japan and the United States (US)
named “Malabar 2019” exercise begun at Sasebo, Japan.
Tiger Triumph - India
and the United States are set to hold their first tri-services
exercise code-named “Tiger Triumph” at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh in
November this year. For the first time, the US and India will be holding the tri-service
military exercise.
Election in
Maharashtra and Haryana - Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly (Vidhan Sabha)
Election 2019 Date, Scheduled on 21st October, while
counting of votes will be held on October 24. With the announcement, the Model
Code of Conduct has come into effect in the two states. Maharashtra, which has
a total of 288 assembly seats. Whereas, in Haryana has 90 assembly seats.

Anniversary - The Nation pays homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma

International Day of
Non-Violence - The International Day of Non-Violence is
observed on 2 October, the birthday of
Mahatma Gandhi. According to the UN General Assembly
BrahMos - India successfully
test-fired a land-attack version of BrahMos supersonic missile from
Chandipur coast in Odisha’s Balasore district. DRDO conducted the test-fire
successfully. The missile, with a strike range of 290 km, can be fired from land as well as sea-based platforms.
BrahMos is a joint venture between the DRDO and the NPOM of Russia.
School Education
Quality Index - Kerala has topped the “School
Education Quality Index” launched by NITI
Aayog. Uttar Pradesh was ranked at
the bottom of the list. Chandigarh
has topped the list of Union Territories.
Tamil Nadu was the top performer in
access and equity outcomes, while Karnataka led in learning outcomes. Haryana
had the best infrastructure and facilities.
Postage Stamp on Mahatma Gandhi
- Palestine has released a commemorative postage stamp on Mahatma
Gandhi, honouring his legacy and values, to mark the 150
birth anniversary of the world leader.
India’s Largest ‘Charkha’-
Union Minister Smriti Irani Inaugurates
India’s Largest ‘Charkha’ made of Waste Plastic in
Noida. This ‘charkha’ (spinning wheel) made of used plastic waste was
inaugurated the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.

Award - Super 30 founder and noted mathematician Anand
Kumar has been felicitated in the US with a
prestigious Education Excellence Award 2019.

his resignation. He became the president of ADB on April
28, 2013.

Mascots For Olympics Games - A smiling panda and a
walking Chinese lantern will be the mascots for the 2022 Winter Olympics and
Paralympics in Beijing, China. The mascot, named Bing
Dwen Dwen, is a chubby giant panda wearing a suit of ice
was revealed as the official mascot for Beijing Winter Olympics
2022. Chinese lantern Shuey Rhon Rhon was declared
as the official mascot for Winter Paralympics 2022.
Reliance Power and JERA Signed Agreement -
Reliance Power has
signed a partnership agreement
with Japanese energy major Japan’s
Energy For a New Era (JERA). Reliance Power will hold 51
per cent stake, while JERA will hold 49 per cent stake in the joint venture
company. They will jointly set up 750-megawatt gas-based
combined cycle power project at Meghnaghat, Bangladesh. The construction of
the plant will be completed by 2022.
Russian Will Train
Indian Astronuats - Russia will train four Indian astronauts for
India’s ambitious manned mission to space, Gaganyaan. Indian
astronauts will be trained at Russian facilities. A special ISRO unit will be
established in the embassy in Moscow to facilitate increased cooperation
between India and Russia in view of the Gaganyaan mission. Under the Gaganyaan
Mission, Indian Space Research Research Organisation has outlined a road map to
put a three-man crew in a low earth orbit for 5-7 days by December 2021.
SLINEX - ‘SLINEX 2019’, the bilateral
maritime exercise between India and Sri Lanka commenced
on 7 September 2019 at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). The
exercise signifies the desire of both countries to enhance co-operation and to
further strengthen mutual trust and interoperability between the two navies.
Man-Portable Antitank
Guided Missile - The Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) successfully flight tested an indigenously-developed low
weight, fire and forget Man-Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) in
the ranges of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
International women’s
trade centre - Kerala will set up India’s first
international women’s trade centre (iWTC), in consonance with
the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Kozhikode. The first
phase of iWTC, being executed under the gender park’s “Vision 2020”, is scheduled to be completed by 2021.
National Animal
Disease Control Programme - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has
launched the National
Animal Disease Control Programme in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura.
The programme aims at vaccinating over 500
Million livestock including cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats
and pigs against foot and mouth disease. The government will fund the
programme for Rs 12,652 crore for a
period of 5 years till 2024. The programme has two
components: to control the diseases by 2025 and eradication by 2030.
Motihari-Amlekhgunj
Petroleum Pipeline - Prime Minister Narendra
Modi and Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P.Sharma
Oli will jointly inaugurate Motihari-Amlekhgunj
cross border petroleum products pipeline. The 69 km long
pipeline from Motihari in Bihar to Amlekhgunj in Nepal has been constructed by
India. This is the first transnational petroleum pipeline form India and first
South Asian oil pipeline corridor.
Jal Jeevan Mission - Prime Minister
Narendra Modi has announced that the central government will spend 3.5
lakh crore rupees in the next five years on ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ to
deliver potable water at every household across the country. Jal Jeevan Mission
involves saving water and delivering water at one’s doorstep.
Capital Infusion in Insurance Companies - The Department
of Financial Services has approved the Rs
12,000 crore capital infusion plan in the 3
state-run general insurance companies. The decision has been
taken to boost their capital base and meet regulatory norms. The 3 state-run
general insurance companies list includes National Insurance,
Oriental Insurance and United
India Insurance.
Conference On Military
Medicine - The 1st conference on military medicine for
the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member
states will be held in Delhi. The conference will be the first military
co-operation event hosted by India, under the SCO Defence Co-operation Plan
2019-2020, after it became an SCO member-state in 2017.
Link Loan to Expernal Benchmark - The Reserve Bank of India has
made mandatory for banks to link
retail and MSME loans to external interest rate
benchmarks. This new norm will be effective from
the 1st of
October. Under this norm, banks have to link all of their new
loan products, be it personal, housing or auto to an external benchmark rate.
Banks have been allowed to choose any benchmark market interest rate published
by the Financial
Benchmarks India Private Ltd (FBIL). Banks can choose
RBI’s repo rate, the government of India’s three-month treasury bill yield
published by the FBIL, government’s six-month treasury bill yield published by
the FBIL or any other market interest rate published by the FBIL.
Global Liveability Index - Economist
Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index for 2019, released with both Delhi and Mumbai sliding
down ranks. New Delhi dropped 6 places to 118, from 112 last year and Mumbai
also fell in this year’s index, by two places to 119, from 117 last year. Vienna in
Austria, Melbourne
and Sydney
in Australia make the top three cities. The survey ranks countries across indicators
including stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure, culture and
environment.
Largest
Gold Reserve - India has surpassed the Netherlands to move into
the list of top10
countries in terms of total gold reserves. According
to the World
Gold Council, India has gold reserves totalling 618.2 tonnes.
According to the World Gold Council, the U.S. leads the country list
with total gold reserves of 8,133.5
tonnes followed by Germany with 3,366.8 tonnes.

Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maandhan Yojana - Prime Minister
Narendra Modi will launch the Pradhan
Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maandhan Yojana, the Centre’s pension
scheme for traders. A few of the first subscribers from across the country will
be given pension cards by the PM. The scheme, which is an extension of the PM
Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana, will make all beneficiaries eligible for a monthly
pension of Rs
3000 after the age
of 60 at a miniscule monthly contribution.

Campaign - Indian Cricket team vice-captain Rohit Sharma is
launching Rohit4Rhinos
campaign, in partnership with WWF India and Animal Planet. This
campaign helps to build awareness for the need to conserve the Greater
One-Horned Rhinoceros or the Indian Rhino.
Best Swachh Iconic place - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi
Shrine in Jammu and
Kashmir has been adjudged as the “Best Swachh Iconic place” in
the country in the ‘Swachh Iconic Places’. This
list released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking
Water and Sanitation.
Yudh Abhyas 2019 - Indo-US defence cooperation, a joint military
training, Exercise “Yudh Abhyas 2019”. This
exercise is being conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mc Chord, Washington, the USA from
05-18 September 2019.
India - New Development Bank Workshop
- A joint India - New Development Bank workshop
was held in New Delhi. The workshop was
organized to enhance the NDB’s engagement with the
India’s private and public
sector. The NDB is the first
Multilateral Development Bank established by developing
countries and emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South
Africa.
Capital Infusion in IDBI - The Cabinet has approved a capital
infusion of Rs 4,557 crore into IDBI
Bank. The capital infusion process will be done through recapitalisation
bonds under which the government will infuse the capital into
the bank and the bank will buy the recapitalisation bonds from the government
on the same day.
Global Goalkeeper Award - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be
honoured with the prestigious ‘Global
Goalkeeper Award’. He will be felicitated by the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation for his leadership and commitment to the Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan.

Conference of Parties to the UN Convention to Combat
Desertification begins in Greater Noida. During the event, India also
assumed the presidency of COP for
two years and Union Minister for environment took up the role of President of
COP.
Japan–India
Defence Ministerial Meeting - Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh co-chaired
the Japan–India
Defence Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan.
The dialogue discussed ways to further strengthen the existing bilateral
co-operative arrangements and adopt new initiatives towards achieving peace and
security in the region.
ASEAN-US Maritime Exercise - The first ASEAN-US Maritime
Exercise (AUMX) between the regional bloc and Washington, starting at the Sattahip Naval Base in Thailand and ending in
Singapore.
Anjali Singh - Wing
Commander Anjali Singh has joined the
Indian Embassy in Russia as India’s first female military
diplomat to be posted in any of the Indian missions abroad.
Sukhoi Su-30 MKI - Indian Air Force
has successfully flight-tested air-to-air missile Astra off
the coast of Odisha. The missile was launched from a Sukhoi
Su-30 MKI combat aircraft.
Moti Bagh - Moti Bagh, a documentary film
based on the struggle of a farmer in a remote Uttarakhand village, has been
nominated for the Oscars. The film, based on the life of Vidyadutt
Sharma, a farmer living in Pauri Garhwal region, also won
the 1st prize at the International short film festival in Kerala. This
documentary film was directed by Nirmal Chandra Dandriyal.

Bharat Express - Union Home Minister Amit
Shah flagged off Delhi-Katra Vande
Bharat Express from the New Delhi Railway Station. The
first commercial run of the train will start from 5th October. This is the
second Vande Bharat Express. The first one runs in between Delhi and Varanasi.
SITMEX Exercise - A maiden trilateral exercise SITMEX,
involving Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Royal
Thailand Navy (RTN) and Indian Navy (IN)
started at Port Blair. The exercise aims to
bolster the maritime inter-relationships among the Singapore Thailand and
India, and contribute significantly to enhance the overall maritime security in
the region.

The actress won the Best Actress award for ‘Badhaai
Ho‘ and her film ‘The Last Color‘ emerged victorious

International Solar Alliance - Saint
Vincent and Grenadines became the 79th
country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an
initiative by India aimed at combating the threats of climate change and global
warming. The International Solar
Alliance is a group of 121 solar resource-rich countries with
headquarters in Gurugram, India.
Abhijit Guha - United Nations Secretary-General
appointed Lieutenant General (Retired) Abhijit Guha as
the head of the UN mission in Hodeidah, Yemen.
List of 100 Best Films - Filmmaker Anurag
Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur has become the
only Indian film to feature in “The Guardian” list of 100 Best Films of the
21st century. The film has bagged the 59th position.
BAFTA Awards - A documentary on Srinagar-based
football club Real Kashmir FC has nominated in the prestigious
British Academy Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
KAZIND-2019 - Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2019 between India and
Kazakhstan will be conducted at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Exercise
KAZIND-2019 is the 4th edition of an annual event which is conducted
alternatively in Kazakhstan and India.
Coins of Guru Nanak - Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) released three coins (100, 1000 and 2500 Nepali
rupees) bearing the Sikh symbol to commemorate the 550th Birth
Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
Raja Bhoj - Madhya
Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced that the metro rail in
Bhopal will be named for Raja Bhoj. Raja Bhoj was an 11th-century
ruler from the Parmar dynasty which once ruled the area.
Cochin International Airport Limited - Airport Council International has
recognised Cochin International Airport Limited as the best airport in
terms of services offered to passengers.The award was presented to the
authorities of Cochin International Airport at the second Annual ACI Customer
Experience Global Summit held at Bali, Indonesia.
United Nations Global Climate Action Award - IT major Infosys has
received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the
‘Climate Neutral Now’ category. Infosys is the only corporate from India
to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change. The award
will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in
Santiago, Chile (December 2019).
World Digital Competitiveness Ranking - India was ranked 44th in the IMD
World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019 produced by the IMD World
Competitiveness Center. The US was ranked as the world’s most
digitally competitive economy, followed by Singapore in the second
place.

Guru Nanak Dev - The United

decided to translate and publish an anthology of the writings of Guru
Nanak Dev in world languages to mark his 550th
birth anniversary. The Government of India is also holding a
series of events and has initiated projects to mark 550th birth anniversary of
Guru Nanak Dev.
Hindi Diwas - Hindi
Diwas is observed every year on 14 September to
mark the popularity of Hindi as an
official language of India. On the occasion, International
Hindi Conference was also organised by World Hindi Council
in New Delhi.
Pandit Jasraj - The International
Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid after
Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj. The asteroid formally known
as a minor planet, is located between Mars and Jupiter.
Ban on Pan Masala - Rajasthan became the third
state in India after Maharashtra and Bihar to ban certain categories of pan masala containing magnesium
carbonate, nicotine, tobacco, mineral oil and flavoured ‘supari’. All such
products will now be banned in the State under the Food Safety Act.

of India - The Sports Ministry of India has de-recognised the Paralympic

Helicopter Summit - The Ministry of
Civil Aviation organised India’s first-ever helicopter summit in
Dehradun. The Indian Air Force was invited at the summit

Mobile App for
Visually Imparied - Reserve Bank Of India is to implement
the idea to develop a mobile application with an aim to help the visually
impaired people to identify currency notes. For this, RBI
has selected Daffodil Software Pvt Ltd. The
application should be able to identify the denomination of legal tender
banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi Series and Mahatma Gandhi (New) series by capturing
the image of the notes that are placed in front of the mobile camera or
scrolled across it. The mobile application should be searchable via voice
option in all app stores.
