Padma Award Winners - The government of India has announced the names of Padma Award winners on January 26, 2020. This year seven prominent personalities have been chosen for Padma Vibhushan, 16 personalities for Padma Bhushan and 118 people for Padma Shri awards.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar - The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2020 was conferred to 49 children under various categories by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 22, 2020. The Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 was conferred under different categories including bravery, social service, sports, art and culture, innovation, scholastic and sports.
Michael Debaprata Patra - The Centre government has appointed Michael Debaprata Patra as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India. Michael Debaprata Patra was currently serving as the Executive Director of RBI. He has appointed in place of former deputy governor Viral Acharya.
Corruption Perception Index - Transparency International has launched Corruption Perception Index based on data collected in 2019. India slipped two positions to 80th in the index while it was at 78th in the previous year’s ranking. Transparency International released the report of this index during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Denmark and New Zealand topped the index as they are the most honest countries.
Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar - The Home Ministry announced the winners of Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2020 on January 23, 2020. The award will be conferred to Uttarakhand’s Disaster Mitigation & Management Centre in the institution category and Kumar Munnan Singh in the individual category.
Brexit Bill Approved - Queen Elizabeth II gave her royal assent to the Brexit bill on January 23, 2020, paving the way for Britain's smooth exit from the European Union. The European Union (withdrawal agreement) bill 2020 has officially become a law after months of blockade in the UK Parliament.  The historic agreement sets the terms of UK's departure from the 28-member EU bloc.
Global Talent Competitive Index - Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI) 2020 has been released at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on January 22, 2020. This year India climbed eight ranks and secured the 72nd rank in the index. Switzerland is in the first place while the USA and Singapore grabbed the second and third positions respectively. 
Democracy Index - Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released the 12th edition of the “Democracy Index 2019: A year of democratic setbacks and popular protest”. Norway topped the Index while North Korea was placed at the bottom of the list. India has been placed at 51st position among 167 countries in the Index and was included in flawed democracy.
Katerina Sakellaropoulou - Katerina Sakellaropoulou has been elected the Greece’s first female president.
Challa Sreenivasulu Setty - The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as the Managing Director of the State Bank of India.
CEO of Public Sector Banks - Government has approved a new appointment of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of three public sector banks - Canara Bank - Lingam Venkat Prabhakar | Bank of Baroda - Sanjiv Chadha | Bank of India - Atanu Kumar Das.
Khelo India Youth Games - Maharashtra has topped the medal tally of the 3rd season of the Khelo India Youth Games concluded in Guwahati. The state clinched 256 medals including 78 gold while Haryana stood at 2nd position with a total of 200 medals. Assam’s swimmer Shivangi Sharma won five gold and two silver medals and became the most successful female player of the tournament.
Vyommitra - ‘Vyommitra’ or “friend in the sky” a half-humanoid robot for Gaganyaan Space Mission has been unveiled by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). ISRO has planned to execute two unmanned missions before the Ganganyaan mission.
World Economic Forum - The 50th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum begins in Davos, Switzerland. This year 50th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum theme will be “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”.
Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft - The Indian Air Force has inducted its 1st squadron of Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft. This aircraft is carrying the BrahMos missiles in the South at its Thanjavur based in Tamil Nadu.
SCO Council - India to host the 19th Edition of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting 2020.The meeting is held annually at the Prime Minister’s level.
GSAT-30 Launched - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched ‘GSAT-30’ from French Guiana on January 17, 2020. GSAT-30 communication satellite was launched aboard Ariane 5 launch vehicle (VA 251) from French Guiana early morning on January 17. GSAT 30 will serve as a replacement to INSAT-4A spacecraft services with enhanced coverage. The satellite was launched along with the European Space Company’s telecommunication satellite- Eutelsat Konnect.
One Nation One Ration Card Scheme - One Nation One Ration Card Scheme will be implemented across India from June 1, 2020. Currently, the scheme is operational in 12 states across the country from January 1, 2020 onwards. The key highlight of One Nation One Ration Card scheme is that under this scheme, a beneficiary will be able to avail benefits across the country using the same ration card.
Jagat Prakash Nadda - Jagat Prakash Nadda was on January 20, 2020 elected as the 11th President of Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level. Nadda succeeds Amit Shah who served as the BJP National President for 5.5 years.
Kerala government Challenged CAA - Kerala government invoked Article 131 to file a petition against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the Supreme Court on January 14, 2020. Kerala has become the first state to move the apex court challenging CAA. The Citizenship (Amendment) Act will provide Indian citizenship to religious minorities belonging to six non-Muslim religions, who have faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
8 Wonders of SCO - Sardar Patel’s 182 meter tall Statue of Unity in Gujarat included in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s ‘8 Wonders of SCO’ list.
Vodafone m-pesa - The Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) of Vodafone m-pesa has been cancelled by Reserve Bank of India. Vodafone Idea closed the m-pesa after getting merged with the Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Limited in 2019.
FPI Limits Increased - The Reserve Bank of India has increased the investment limit for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) from 20% to 30% in government & corporate bonds.
Arjun Munda - Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda has become the President of the suspended Archery Association of India (AAI)
K-4 Ballistic Missile - The nuclear-capable K-4 ballistic missile has been successfully test-fired by India at Vizag coast in Andhra Pradesh. The nuclear-capable missile having the range of 3,500-kilometre was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Microsoft will Become Carbon Negative - The US tech giant Microsoft has announced that it would become “carbon negative” by year 2030. Microsoft has also announced its investment of $1 billion in a “climate innovation fund” for technology for carbon capture and removal.
ICC Under-19 World Cup Cricket - The ICC Under-19 World Cup Cricket 2020 begins in South Africa.  India is the defending champions in U19 World Cup 2018. Total 16 teams are participating in the tournament.
S-400 Long-Range Missile - Russia has started production of S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile systems for India. All five units will be delivered to India by 2025.
Most Dynamic Cities - Hyderabad secured the first place in the list of the world's most dynamic cities. Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) has recently released the city momentum index that comprised of 129 cities across the world. There are seven Indian cities are present in the top-20 cities. Bangalore ranked second in this index while Chennai secured fifth and Delhi got the sixth position.
Hydrochlorofluorocarbon Phase-out - India has successfully achieved a complete phase-out of one of the most potent ozone-depleting chemicals- Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-141 b. The harmful chemical was successfully phased from the foam manufacturing process by January 1, 2020.
One Trillion Trees Initiative - The World Economic Forum has launched 'One Trillion Trees Initiative' to grow, restore and conserve 1 trillion trees across the world by 2030. The global initiative is aimed at restoring biodiversity and help fight climate change. US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will join the one trillion trees initiative.
Three State Capitals - The Andhra Pradesh state assembly passed the bill proposing creation of three state capitals in Amravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool on January 20, 2020. The bill was passed without any amendments. The new draft bill proposes setting up of a legislative capital in Amaravatiexecutive capital in Visakhapatnam and judicial capital in Kurnool.
Crystal Award - Deepika Padukone was honoured with the Crystal Award 2020 at the 26th annual Crystal Award ceremony during the World Economic Forum’s opening session on January 20, 2020. The popular Indian actress was awarded for playing a leading role in raising mental health awareness and her foundation Live Love Laugh. The winners of Crystal Awards 2020 include Deepika Padukone, artist Theaster Gates, choreographer Jin Xing and artist Lynette Wallworth.
National Girl Child Day - National Girl Child Day celebrated by India every year on 24th January. 24th January was celebrated globally as International Day of Education with the theme Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace’.
Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre - Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou have inaugurated India’s first Mahatma Gandhi convention centre in Niger. It is the first convention centre established in Africa by India to honour the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
India’s Most Polluted Cities - Greenpeace India has recently released a list of India’s most polluted cities. The Greenpeace index says that Jharkhand’s Jharia is the most polluted city in the country. Delhi has been ranked at number 10 this year while it was at number eight a year ago. According to the report, Dhanbad (in Jharkhand), is the second most polluted city in India, known for its coal reserves and industry. Six of the top 10 polluted cities are from Uttar Pradesh - Noida, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Allahabad, Moradabad, and Firozabad.
Women with Wheels - A unique taxi service ‘Women with wheels’ which will be only available for the female commuters and will be driven by women drivers only, has been launched at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. It is an initiative by ‘Sakha cabs’.
International Kolkata Book Fair - The 44th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF) will be held with Russia as the focal theme country.
UPI Payments - Reliance Jio has become the 1st telecom operator to facilitate UPI payments feature through its platform after launching the feature on the MyJio app and will be now competing with other private UPI payment providers such as Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe.
United Nations AIDS - Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in the United Nations AIDS (UNAIDS) programme at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The theme of the programme is “Access for all: Leveraging Innovations, Investments and Partnerships for Health”.
World Economic Situation and Prospects - The United Nations has lowered India’s GDP growth rate to 5.7% for the Fiscal Year 2019-20 in its World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2020 report.
IMF Decreased GDP Growth - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has estimated India’s growth rate for the fiscal year 2019 as 4.8%. IMF has also projected India’s growth rate as 5.8% in 2020 and 6.5% in 2021.
Policy to Lease Agricultural Land - Uttarakhand has become the 1st state in the country where the government has made a policy to lease agricultural land.
Cardless Cash Withdrawal - ICICI Bank has rolled out “Cardless Cash Withdrawal” service through ATM with a per day transaction limit of Rs 20,000.
Vajra Platform - The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a blockchain-technology based payment system ‘Vajra Platform’.
National Startup Advisory Council ­- The “National Startup Advisory Council” has been set up by the Government of India to guide the union government to build a strong ecosystem to nurture innovation and start-ups in India. The council will be chaired by the Commerce Minister.
PRAGATI Platform - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the 32nd interaction through PRAGATI platform which was held in New Delhi. PRAGATI is defined as the ICT-based, multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. The PRAGATI platform also addresses the grievances of the common people.

Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana - Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana has been launched by the government of Uttar Pradesh to provide financial assistance to the family of farmers who die or become handicapped while working in fields.

Global Social Mobility Report - The 1st edition of Global Social Mobility Report 2020 titled “The Global Social Mobility Report 2020: Equality, Opportunity and a New Economic Imperative” released by World Economic Forum. As per the Index, India ranked has 76th position with a score of 42.7, while Denmark topped the list.
Uber Eats Business - “Zomato” has announced the acquisition of Uber Eats business in India. Uber Eats is an Uber Technologies Inc’s food delivery business in India.
NDRF Raising Day - National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrated its 15th Raising Day on 19th January 2020. The organization plays an important role in Disaster Management and Community awareness for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the country.

Currency Manipulator - The Treasury Department of United States of America has been removed China from the designation as “currency manipulator“.
World Bank Loan - USD 210 million loan agreement has been signed by the Government of India and the Maharashtra and World Bank for Maharashtra Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project. The loan amount will be funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
Sunil Arora - The Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA) has got a new chairman- Sunil Arora for the year 2020.
National Voters Day - India celebrated 10th edition National Voters’ Day of 25th of January with the theme ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’ which aims to renew the citizens’ faith in the electoral process as well as to educate the voters of India.
Rohingya Genocide - The International Court of Justice announced its verdict in the Rohingya genocide case at The Hague on January 23, 2020. The top court directed Myanmar to take urgent measures to protect the Muslim community from persecution. The ruling came on a petition filed by the Gambia at the ICJ against Myanmar, alleging genocide against the minority Muslim Rohingya community.
World Employment and Social Outlook Trends - International Labour Organisation (ILO) has recently released ‘World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2020’. The report highlights that global unemployment will rise by 2.5 million in 2020. The ILO report said that about 188 million people are unemployed in the world.
Death Penalty of Pervez Musharraf - The Lahore High Court declared Pervez Musharraf's death penalty as "unconstitutional" and annulled the decision of the special tribunal on January 13, 2020.
ICC Award - Indian skipper Virat Kohli was named captain of both ICC Test and ODI teams of 2019 and awarded ICC 2019 'Spirit of Cricket' award. Rohit Sharma was also honoured with the ICC ODI Cricketer of the year 2019 award. The ICC Awards were announced on January 15, 2020. 
Assam Inland Water Transport Project - The Central Government and Assam state government signed a USD 88 million loan agreement with the World Bank on January 16, 2020 to implement the Assam Inland Water Transport Project. The project aims to modernise the infrastructure and services of Assam's passenger ferry sector, which operates on its rivers including the Brahmaputra.
