Gotabaya Rajapaksa - Sri Lanka’s former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has won the Presidential election. He is the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prime minister of Sri Lanka is Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Sir David Attenborough - The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2019 will be conferred on renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough for his tireless work to preserve and protect biodiversity.
International Children’s Peace Prize - Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg was awarded an international children’s peace prize, for her work in the struggle against climate change. Cameroonian peace activist Divina Maloum, aged 15, also received the International Children’s Peace Prize, for her fighting spirit and ‘Peaceful struggle’ against Boko Haram jihadist group.
PETA - Person of the Year - India captain Virat Kohli was named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s ‘Person of the Year for 2019’ for his animal advocacy efforts.
Agni-II Tested - India has successfully conducted the first night trial of Agni-II, its versatile surface-to-surface medium-range nuclear-capable missile from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast. Agni-II, an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), has already been inducted into the armed forces. Range of Agni-II is 2000 KM.
Cartosat-3 - India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C47 will launch Cartosat-3 and 13 commercial nanosatellites into Sun Synchronous orbit from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota on 25th November. Cartosat-3 satellite is a third-generation agile advanced satellite having high-resolution imaging capability.
Indian Personality of the Year Award - Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has been conferred the Indian Personality of the Year Award (Sports) at the Indo Arab Leaders Summit & Awards 2019 in Dubai. World powerlifting champion Mahant Gaurav Sharma was also honoured with Visionary Leaders of the Year (Sports) award.
Sudhir Mital - Former Competition Commission of India chairman Sudhir Mital and Shantikumar Singh were elected as president and general secretary respectively, of the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI).
Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year - Microsoft’s India-born Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella has occupied the top spot in Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2019 list.
World Talent Ranking - The International Institute of Management Development’s (IMD) World Talent Ranking (WTR) report for the year 2019 was released. In the released report, India was ranked at 59th position, a slip by 6 places on a global annual list of 63 countries. The list was topped by Switzerland.
DMRC Awarded - The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been conferred with two awards for its commendable initiatives in promoting the metro as a green and sustainable mode of transport among the masses. DMRC was awarded for the ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ project and the ‘Green Metro project – An Initiative for Sustainable and Viable Urban Transport’ at the 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held from November 15 to 17 in Lucknow.
International Cherry Blossom Festival - Meghalaya Chief Minister has Inaugurated the 4th International Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 held in Shillong, Meghalaya. For the 1st time, India & South Korea jointly celebrated this festival.
South Asia Safety Summit - The Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani was addressing the 2nd edition of South Asia Safety Summit in New Delhi. The South Asia Safety Summit is Facebook’s annual event to host critical conversations on digital safety and security.
GI Tag to Green and White Tea - The green tea and white tea of Darjeeling have been registered as a geographical indication tag in the country.
ADB Loan to India - Centre government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an agreement to extend 91 million US dollar loan to modernize the Vijaya nagara Channel Irrigation Systems, Karnataka and prepare river basin management plans in the Krishna river basin.
Sindhu Sudarshan Exercise - The Sudarshan Chakra Corps of the Indian Army conducted ‘Sindhu Sudarshan’ exercise in Barmer, Rajasthan. Exercise will continue till December 05.
HNLC Banned - Meghalaya-based insurgent group, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has been banned by the central government for its increased activities of violence and other subversive acts.
Arundhati scheme - Assam Govt approves Arundhati scheme to provide 1 Tola Gold to brides parents belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society free of cost. The purpose of this scheme is to reduce child marriage.
Jyoti Sharma - Lieutenant Colonel Jyoti Sharma has been appointed as Indian Army’s first female Judge Advocate General officer to be deployed on a foreign mission.
Destination North East’ Festival - Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the ‘Destination North East’ Festival in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on 23rd November 2019.
First Sugar Mill - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated North India’s first sugar mill which will produce ethanol direct from sugarcane. The mill was inaugurated in Gorakhpur.
Swachh Survekshan Grameen - The Union Minister of the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, conferred the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 awards to top-ranked states on the occasion of World Toilet Day in New Delhi. The top-ranked stateTamil Nadu, and the top-ranked district: Peddapalli (Telangana), along with the state with the maximum citizen participation: Uttar Pradesh.
Counter Terrorism Exercise - The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will host the first-ever counter-terrorism (CT) exercise for the Quad countries in New Delhi. The Quad countries include the United States (US), India, Australia, and Japan.

RBI Superseded DHFL - The Reserve Bank of India superseded the board of debt-laden Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL) as it intends to shortly initiate the process of resolution of the company under the insolvency and bankruptcy rules.

NCAER Forecast on Indian GDP - The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has pegged India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth for 2019-20 at 4.9% as against 6.8 % in 2018 (or FY-19).
FIFA Under 17 World Cup - The Brazilian football team defeated the football team of Mexico in the finals for 2-1, to win the 18th edition of the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) under 17 World Cup trophy held in Brasilia, Brazil.
World Athletics - The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has officially changed its name and will now be known as “World Athletics”
International Conference on Agricultural Statistics - The Ministry of Agriculture will organize the 8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-VIII) in New Delhi. Bill Gates will be the Chief Guest at the Conference. The conference will be held with the theme of ‘Statistics for Transformation of Agriculture to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.
New Rules under IBC - The Government of India has issued fresh rules under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) to govern the rescue of non-bank lenders. Reserve Bank of India has been given the authority to decide which companies will be taken up to a bankruptcy tribunal under these rules.
David Villa - Spain’s striker David Villa has announced his retirement from football.
World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - The United Nations observes “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims” on 17 November every year. The theme is based on Pillar 3 of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety – Safer vehicles.

#OrangeTheWorld - The Home Ministry in collaboration with the UN Women flagged off an awareness campaign To End Violence Against Women from Sultanpur metro station in Delhi. The initiative is part of the #OrangeTheWorld global campaign.

Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act Amended - Parliament has passed the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Bill seeks to amend the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act, 1951. It has a provision to remove the President of the Congress party as a trustee and clarifies that when there is no Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the leader of the single largest Opposition party will be the trustee.
National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa - The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa in Leh, Ladakh. The Institute will be an autonomous National Institute under Ministry of AYUSH.
Census 2021 - Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed that Census 2021 will be conducted in 16 languages. Census will be conducted in two phases – House-listing and Housing Census from April to September 2020 and Population Enumeration during February 09-28, 2021.
